Social Science Major

The Social Science major is designed to provide a broad foundation in areas such as business, communication, criminal justice, leadership, political science, psychology, and sociology.  The major also helps develop a Christian worldview and functions as a stepping-stone to graduate programs in the social sciences.

Requirements total 48 hours. Up to 9 hours required in the major may be used to meet general education requirements.

  • 21 hours (9 hours at 300-level or above) in the Business Department, Communication Department, Psychology Department, or Criminal Justice Department 
  • 15 hours (6 hours at 300-level or above) in second choice of the social science departments listed above or in the area of sociology 
  • 12 hours (3 hours at 300-level or above) in any of the remaining social science departments or in the areas of leadership, political science, or sociology
  • A capstone course must be taken in the 21 or 15 hour category to fulfill the general education requirement of IDS 499X.  An internship course must be taken in the 21 or 15 hour category to fulfill the practical experience graduation requirement.
